Veterans Program

Westside Gambling Treatment for Veterans and First Responders

We know that there is no “one size fits all” approach to overcoming a gambling addiction.

Veterans and first responders are trained to stay calm in the toughest situations, even when things are literally on fire. But that same training and willingness to take risks can lead the way to gambling addiction. Research shows that those who have recently left the service have higher rates of problem gambling than civilians. Veterans and first responders with co-occurring trauma, mood disorder and chronic pain are especially vulnerable. High stress, lack of sleep, easy access to online betting and a culture that values toughness can make gambling a quiet way to cope. Tragically, veterans with severe gambling problems are more likely to attempt suicide, especially those with chronic pain or co-occurring mental health issues. The WGT Seven-Week Veteran and First Responder Gambling Program is built to address these realities.

Our curriculum is tailored to the specific needs of veterans and first responders. Our focus:

If you are a California veteran or first responder who screens positive for gambling disorder, reach out today.  Your problem gambling isn’t a moral failing; it’s a condition that can be treated. Our team understands the culture of the military, law enforcement, fire, EMS, and hospitals, and we take your privacy, career, and safety seriously. Reaching out is the first step toward getting your life, your finances, and your sense of control back.

What to Expect

Week 1

Screening / Assessment and Treatment Planning

Weeks 2-8

The WGT Program

Combining six hours of weekly group therapy with U.S. veterans and first responders, with a single hour of individual counseling with a trained gambling addiction specialist, group sessions take place virtually during the after-work hours scheduled on weekday evenings.
